Manchu/Sibo OOPS: turns out it is Qing
I was wondering when this area on Atarn.org will be finished.
I do have some interest in the Chinese bows and would love to read some articles and see some pictures of these types of bows.
If anyone will care to share some dimentions or other information on them, i will be very glad.

Sam; Look through the archive. Several months ago I posted scaled drawings of a Qing bow. Jack.
 That has been empty since the year dot, although I have done some reports on Manchu/Sipo culture in previous newsletters. I'll get the relevant stuff filed under the right category.
Thanks for reminding me.

Ok Stephen Selby. I can try to search through newsletters and find some good info for me to use.
And Jack,
I am having a hard time finding the files you said. Do you happen to have them ready so you can post them up here?

Stephen I am starting to wonder now. I like the look of the bows like the one in this picture. You have a few pics of them on your website, and I have seen all of them. Can you say what kind of bow it is? Also, what is the draw weight, bow length, and era? Is it related to manchu/sibo.
Well !
Check this out!! it is a piece of functional antique....around 40#, can be draw up to 35 inches.....and very very flexable not as stiff as modern bows.... Also! the long ears works like wheels in compound bow....the strength required for holding and aiming it is a bit less then pulling it. best of all when unstrung it goes back to "C" shape right away....that gives the bow great cast......

another view, by the way! the bow length is about 62inches nock to nock :D
I went through ATARN.org, and I found 6 photos of the type of bow I want information on. In the reading, I found that they are actually Qing Dynasty bows, and not Manchu or Sibo.
The child's bow was 2/3's the length of an adult bow, making them 185.25 cm long. The adult bow string is 158.3 cm.
If I am wrong please correct me. Can anyone give more pictures or information on these bows?

The deal is even better!!! If you really want,I can find you an antique Qing bow which is well over 150years old and still functional like new.

Yokhua, I would personally never shoot a bow over 50 years old, let alone 150. BOws that old should be preserved and taken care of. Anyway, where do you find such bows? And how much do they cost?
And I am not saying that shooting old bows is wrong, just saying I wont, would rather save it.

Yokhua, The bow you are shooting is really beautiful. What is it made of?Are those antique useable bows available? If so, how much would one cost? I am interested in getting one to shoot . Thanks, DaleRJ
Nice bow yokhua,
Grozer Csaba will make a bow for me like http://www.grozerarchery.com/htm/mongol/ex1/1.gif having longer arms (it's called a Chinese bow then?). Draw is normally 34", but mine should allow 35-36". Bow is still in queue.
I'm experimenting a bit with the only thing I have that can fire 36" arrows (a simple bamboo toybow). Could you give some pointers about technique, especially aiming? Already using thumbdraw, left bowhand - arrow at right side of bow and manage to fire in a 'straight' line to the target ;)

The bow arrived yesterday. 25 lbs @ 28", 40 lbs @ 36" (quite a difference with the 7 lbs or so from the bamboo :) ).
