Using Corel Draw 10 and pictures of yumis send me by friends I extract basic form of unstrung yumi in vector format. So what, you can ask. Vector grafic is good because you can resize picture and it will always look good, in diference of bitmap grafic! So now, I can make bow form as for making modern recurve. I know that is easier to use wadges but who say that life must be simple. In picture black line rapresent yumi made by Don Symanski. I read somewhere that this is look of new yumi before it first use. But who know? The red and green line rapresent used yumies. Now my questions: What is real form of unstrung yumi? Black, red or green, or it have some other form?

I have three yumis (18th, 19th and 20th century) and there is a lot of variation. I none of mine is as extreme as your outside, black line.

Do you have any reason to think that the unstrung form is important? I think that it is affected by temperature, humidity and the time elapsed since last use. Surely it is the strung form that is important...

According to Tim BAKER in the Traditional Bowyer's Bible, the shape of the bow just unstrung is very important to know its potential. This is notably when you must check string follow.

This is the complete list of Yumi and traditional archery equipments suppliers of all Japan. They are the real masters of Yumi. Check them out, The unstrung profile of a Yumi has been mentioned there. You can order a Yumi or some beautiful bamboo arrows directly from any one of them. (The good bamboo arrows are much more expensive then their bamboo Yumis).

As you can see turcs bows are very fast because of right form. Short limbs and whole limb work is esential for good bow. I try to make simple yumi that looks like english long bow but nothing. Maybe I don't use correct tehnic or... the form of yumi is very very important.

I dont understend japanise, nither google translate site very good so I didn't find anything useful on site:
http://www.sun-inet.or.jp/~kyudo/mise.htm. Maybe the direct link to picture is better.

I have been on site www.yumi.hu. It is good site but without enlish translation. The red line is one of hungarians bow. It is based on picture send me by one "compaesan" of mine who live and practice kyudo in Austria.

Does somebody know the e-mail of Don Symanski? He studied yumi making under Shibata family.

I forget two most inportant questions. DOES CROSS SECTION OF YUMI LIMB IS SAME AT HANDLE AND AT LIMB END? ARE DIMENSION OF CROSS SECTION SAME TROUGHT WHOLE LIMB OR THE LIMB BECOME MORE NARROW AT LIMB END?

Why nobody want to answer my questions about dimension of yumi? Well I repeat questions:

DOES CROSS SECTION OF YUMI LIMB IS SAME AT HANDLE AND AT LIMB END?

ARE DIMENSION OF CROSS SECTION SAME TROUGHT WHOLE LIMB OR THE LIMB BECOME MORE NARROW AT LIMB END?
