Hi everybody,
does anybode know, who is selling different kinds of presses for bowmaking?
Thanks
Orda Khan
Yes, I've dealt with Flybowshop, they are based in Ireland and offer a friendly service.

Thank you Orda, I was just thinking about buing some bowmaking tools and so far it's the only Europe based shop providing quite broad range of tools for bowyers I've found.
It seems quite covenient you can get them all from one place. I'm not sure about prices though those for hand tools seem to be fine :)
But if it comes to things like horn or sinew I think Highland Horn it's a lot cheaper.

I'm copletely don't know how expansive a bow press should be...
Orda Khan
Yes Highland horn supplies better horn, I wouldn't buy the horn strips that Flybow sell.

They also sell the plans for the press. Perhaps it would be easier to build one than have it shipped. It looks like a variation of a traditional carpenter's tool. It might be possible to get one cheaper.

I?m getting curious.
What is a bow press, till now I thought compound- archers need a bow press.
But this topic is meaning a bowpress as a tool for glueing laminations? Even hornbows?
How is such a press working?

The name bow press it?s a bit confusing in that case ; )

Redhawk,
that?s what I think about it?s laminating press, I think that?s what Roksolana was writing about?
Hmm, basically it's a device used for gluing glass fiber laminated bows and it consist of an air hose incorporated between two parts of a bow form, you put the lamination on the lower part of the form, than put the air hose and the upper part of the form on it, clamp the whole thing and apply pressure through the air hose.
I've never heard of someone using laminating press for making horn bows.

See the Flybow?s site than go to the bow building supplies, they have two kinds, for a longbow and a recurve.

Bede,
Did you mean perhaps plans for a shaving horse? I don?t exactly know what Roksolana is looking for.
Bede
The shaving horse is what I thought was being discussed. Easy to be confused. With a composite bow, I think in terms of binding with a tencek rather than using a gluing frame or a press.

There is a Chinese device for pressing the horn and wooden core together while gluing and binding.
