Thumb rings - horn
Just wondering, which part of a horn do you use to make a thumb ring out of? Is it the tip? I have access to plenty of horn but I'd like to avoid wrecking as little as possible! :D

Depends on the shape of the thumb ring. Since you can heat and bend horn, you can make most rings out of scraps. I use the offcuts from making strips for laminations. If you want to make a deep ring, you can use the tips. You can make an old fashioned Korean or Persian ring out of 7 mm thick flat pieces of horn by bending it hot and letting it cool into the right profile.
