Does anybody knows where to get a English translation of “A 14th-Century Archery Treatise in Mamluk-Kipchak Kitab fi Ilm An-Nussab : Memluk Kipcakcasiyla 14. yy.'da Yazilmis Bir Okculuk Kitabi‏”?

It was mentioned here that the book published recently in Istambul, Turkey has English translation along with original text and modern Turkish. Is it right?

Thank you in advance!
Bede
Our Turkish friends will know more recent information, but the book was available on the Internet for a while and was also available from bookshops in Istanbul.

Hi Gleb,

Yes, The book, written by Kurtulus Oztopcu, was published in Istanbul in 2002. It contains the original text in Arabic alphabet, its transcription and translation to both today's Turkish and English. Interestingly, it's easy to understand the original text for us with only slight effort, despite the 7 centuries passed. Our language was under severe influence of Arabic and Persian in the last few centuries and texts from this era require often a dictionary and familiarity to the format of mistakenly so-called "Ottoman language".

The language of Kitab fi' ilm-an n?şş?b is in Kiptschak dialect of Turkish and the book is worthless for everone who's interested in Turkish/Mamluk/Ottoman archery tradition. Thanks to its accurate translation to English it's a great book for English-speaking enhusiasts.

Well, the problem is: The book is out of print. For my Polish friend Andrzej Abratowski I searched the second-hand book market a few years ago and could not find a copy. But I have the book and can send you a photocopy like I did for Andrzej. Please contact me thru PM.

Best,

M.

CORRECTION:

I meant "priceless", not "worthless"!..Sorry. The book is exceptional with the academic approach of Dr. ?ztop?u and with its content.

Dear Gleb,
I'm in contact with Dr. Oztopcu. You can buy his some books via here. He gave this address to me: http://en.eren.com.tr/goster/kitap/kisi ... 3159166297

Also if you want to contact him, I can give his e-mail address to you. He is very kindness and benevolent man.

Maybe you should also ask for the photocopy and take an approval for that.
