Asian Bamboo Recurve?
Does any one have pictures or plans for a Bamboo Deflex or recurve? I would like to make a Korean Horn Bow but that is past my skill set! I draw 26-27 inches at fifty pounds. Is it possible to replicate a Hornbow with wood and bamboo?
Thanks,
Thanks,
Let?s say you?ll make a boo- wood composite in a hornbow- design.
This is possible, there are also great 2- lam bows in the Northern Eurasian tradition mostlly made of birch and compression pine with spliced in siyahs, with bone or hornplates for to enforce the siyahs and the grip.
This could be a very well experience for to prepare the making of a hornbow.
Recently Dragonman has done a nice boo- wood composite in the Asian tradition.
Surf the archive and elder threads, you?ll find for sure what you would like to reconstruct.

What part of "Hornbow" do you want to replicate? The horn part? Or the part that has them looking like the bows of the steppe nomads? There are lots of ideas here for relatively simple bamboo and wood bows that "look like hornbows" or rather "horse bows" with the angular siyahs or recurved ends similar to the Korean bows.

This Indonesian bows is not very "hornbow" like except they also make these bows from two pieces of horn rather than bamboo:

If people say asian recurve without definition, I think people generally mean shortish bow with underbending recurve tips.
