feedback on thumb ring

I'm making a cow horn thumb ring w/ a string groove, and I wanted to get feedback on the design.

I notice I'm not able to flex my thumb joint all the way --- sometimes this causes either of my thumb joints to pop as I pull the string. Is this problem alleviated by making the inside of the lip thinner, or by shaving more off the bottom edge of the ring? And should I be making the lip shorter?

Justin,
If you want to flex the thumb all the way, you will need a different style of thumb ring. The one you are making is perfect for the half-flexed thumb used by resting the tip of the ring near to the middle joint of the middle finger.

If you want to shoot with a fully flexed thumb you will need to take some horn off the bottom of the thumb ring so that when the thumb flexes it will slide farther down the thumb comfortably.

Thanks for the feedback.

So I ended up shaving ~2mm from the bottom part of the ring near the string groove. That gave me just enough room to flex a tiny bit more to be comfortable. I'm find that stronger contact between the thumb and middle finger joint helps mitigate joint popping.

Justin,
That is the way it should feel. The pressure of the thumb on the middle finger puts compression on the joints and reduces the effect of the weight of the bow on the thumb. As the bow weight goes up, you must squeeze the thumb against the middle finger harder and clench the other three fingers (middle, ring and little fingers) more tightly, but you should never increase the pressure on the index finger.
