Ottoman Bow
Dear all,
I just finished my Ottoman Target Hornbow,...now it is ready for sinew backing.
Facts:
- 3 Piece construction maple (see older post "Bow Cores")
Grain running horizontal parallel.
- Grip lamination with cornelian cherry.
(Traditional Stability)...bottom Maple 7mm, top Cornelian cherry.
- Waterbuffalo horn (one of them is partly a little bit bleached white)
- Ivory Celik
When the Bow will be finished, it will be approx. 126cm from Tip to Tip,...Kasan is 17cm.
Now the widest Part of Sal is 32mm.
Woodsplices, Griplamination and Horn to Wood joinery is glued with Sturgeon Bladder glue and fitting grooves.

Nice clear work.
Looks good. So long for me 8) . I understand- more stability... I hope will be more than 60lb :D Good luck.
Wolfhorn,
The form looks good , grooves matched well. 7mm bottom maple is too much for grip lamination. Good luck.

Looks great.
How did you do that concave sal-kassan joint?
The grip is 2 part laminated and then spileced to sal or laminated on top of sal?

Sal -kasan-bash is one piece of maple plank :D , good craftsmans work.
Realy? This one piece? And I admire accomplished Vsplit in sal-kasan... :D
Wolfhorn, again, nice clear work...

Dear all,
I nearly finished my Ottoman Bow.
First pictures below.
Drawweight now lbs 100+
Tillering is not finished yet.
The Kasan eye area must be corrected---> a little more opened.
The String should not touch the Kasan on the belly.
One sal is a bit stiffer then the other.

Congratulations. Kasan eye(sal/kasan) angle is too sharp, string should not touch the kasan. Please heat both kasan eye section from horn side( not too much).

Thanks Cem,
Yes this is the next step i want to do.
Open the Kasan eye a little more in unstrung position, with heat.

No,...what you mean is (Spitzahorn --> Acer platanoides).
I would think you can also use this.
I used (Mountainmaple --> Acer pseudoplatanus).

Sycamore. Yes I have a green cores for Turkish bow of Norway maple, I also searching for Sycamore but still didn't found it in Almaty.
Interesting that you used sycamore for the core as there is lots and lots of it about here. I hope your bow makes it to be a shooter!
Hello,
Sycamore is NOT Mountain Maple (Acer pseudoplatanus).
Sycamore is Platane (Platanius),...it only looks nearly like (Acer pseudoplatanus).

 ha-this is weight what i liked ! Hope shoot fast !
You can use this,...thats in Austria Mountain Maple.
wow really good bow - short and strong.
Hello,
I corrected my bow and opened the Kasan eye area with heat and scrap off some horn.
This bow needs String Bridges and a little higher Braceheight, because i cannot open the Kasan eye area anymore with heat.
And i do not want to scrap off more horn, because then the bow will be too unstable.
In the picture you can see at Top BEFORE, and AFTER at bottom.

Very nice,I'd like to see more(bigger) pictures. The bow seems to bend mostly near the grip:making it bend more on the outer part of sal will increase the angle between kasan+bash and the string, increasing stability...less energy storage but also less string follow, and you can lower the brace height.
I send you biger pictures at the evening to your email adress
Hi! My congrats! Nice work! What is the brace hight at the moment?
