Red deer back strap

Not processed. It?s sold for 0,48?/g. The average weight is 16g so that the average price would be about 7,68?/tendon. Minimum order is 30?. This type of tendon is approximately 2,5 times heavier and much longer (20? or 50cm) than the average whitetail back strap.

Postage is very probably 8,60? for Europe. Custom is up to you if there is any.

Thanks for looking!

PS: I?ve looked if it is ok to offer stuff for sale on this site and I?ve found other sale offers. But if this is not ok than please feel free to delete this thread.

No problem to post things for sale here as long as you stick to archery. :D

I've been looking for sinew for a few days now in Canada... it's a right bugger to get here!

Three rivers archery sells it... 10.50/U.S. per. (about 10 Euro) almost... but Canada and the farm safety act have a funny way of dealing with animal part imports...

Anyhow... Anyone know where I can buy sinew in quantities enough to sinew a few bows?

Stephen thank you!

Byron,
The price you are giving is for ONE processed BACKSTRAP which should be about 1/5oz. That means that 1oz will cost you approximately 52 USD, 2oz are 104 USD.

My offer is for processed LEG SINEW. 2oz for 39 USD (30?)

I?m seriously starting to think that I?m far to cheap and should considerably raise the price ... :-)

I'd love to buy a quantity from you, but alas, I live in Canada. (don't get me wrong, Canada is a lovely place... really is, but I'm having no luck securing a steady supply for some materials here... and the country is OVERRUN with deer, elk, moose and tourists!)

Byron, you live on "hunter"country. Full of elks , moose deers, ... and hunting shops vith meat from hunters.Nobody of us from Europa have this chance . Adam live in same country and buy moose sinew. Its only in your activity found good source around you. Go on. Dont (like said in our county) claw vith left hand in right ear...

Yes indeed and I've put the word out with everyone I know who hunts to save me the sinew from legs etc. from whatever gets shot this year... not deer season here yet... nor moose... for me it's a long, long drive to moose country... there are deer around where I live, sure... but you can only take them in season and with the licenses. (yes, yes... the law.)

So, while I wait for hunting season I want to find / buy some sinew to start... but no... I wait... maybe I'll just do the wood work for now... yes. that will pass the time until autumn.

I do not buy moose sinew - the butchers let me cut the legs for free. I suggest to make a trip to the moose country (1-2 hr drive from Toronto?) on the seconfd or the third day of the moose season. Find a butcher there and ask if you can cut the tendons from the legs. He will point towards a bin with all kinds of disgusting material: moose heads, guts and all, including legs. Fish the legs from the bin and do your surgery yourself. After the third day the bin begins to smell - too much for me! Over the years the butchers got to know me well enough, so they pile the legs separate from the rest. It takes an effort and dedication no doubt, but you will have the best material to use on the bows.

I did it the same way as Adam. The first time, the people at the butcher's look at me like I was an alien when I explained about sinew and bow making, but one of them cut off the legs and laid them aside for me. It only cost me a crate of beer, which is a typical unit of currency for such things in Austria. They left it in the chill room, where they last for a week before the smell becomes bad.

Perhaps I should have offered to pay for sinew with beer here in Australia. What a good idea.

Dont feel bad. Its nothing against you, Hartung :) .On the contrary, i think that your offer is very friendly for people who haevnt any chance find sinew . Only people who know how long time must working on sinew cleaning , dreyng, and mostly separating (plus smell ...) understand how good is your offer.
(Many years ago when i cant find any sinew ,i was so frustrated an buy in Pet shop sinew for dogs cheawing... )
