Horn Direction
Which direction should the tip of the horn face? Tip towards the handle or towards the ends of the bow? Or should you just make sure that you do the same with both horn strips? Also one of my horn strips is somewhat translucent when I hold it up to a light. Is this ok, it is 4mm thick?
Tips to the handle.
Orda khan is right. Horns are thicker towards the tips.
Horn could be transluscent, there are white horns too. No impact on performance.

I have enough thickness throughout the whole horn, but I can get an extra inch out of the horn as the last inch is too narrow for the handle. Is it more important to have an extra inch or to have the horn tips used at the handle?
In this case I would prefer an extra inch in width.
I guess a second reason using the tips at the handle is to get an early reflex?

That would make sense, Michael. I wouldn't mind betting that the horn is tougher in composition at that 'reflex' area as well, seeing as the walls get progressively thinner towards the base.redhawk wrote:

If you are struggling to get enough length to butt at the grip, you could use shorter strips and butt these up to a grip section. There are examples of this construction on this forum.
Yes, orda, butt- joining lengthwise is an option too.
