Pacific Yew as core wood

In his book, Adam Karpowicz names yew as a viable wood for composite cores, but then goes on to say that yew wood requires "extra care and precaution". Any idea what this might mean? So far i have worked with yew a fair amount, gluing tip overlays, sinew, and even making trilams with yew as the belly core.

Have any of you made composites with yew? Take any special precautions outside the normal? The reason i ask is that i have a buttload of the stuff and would rather use it than going out to take down some maple. It is well seasoned, air dried not kiln dried, and so far has proven to take good bends after being boiled. I have recurved 5/8 thick by 1 inch wide quarter sawn pieces of this wood.

Am i better to use it plain sawn or quarter sawn?

thanks you guys
