A Story Waiting to Pierce You, by Peter Kingsley.

After introducing archaeologist, Victor Mair, to the concept of belomancy, he sent a card recommending this book to me. The story is about how a Avar shaman carrying a golden arrow walked from Mongolia to Greece and left his arrow and his vision of the world with Pythagoras.

The story is very short and further digresses to explain how that vision affected/affects the modern world.

Almost half the book is footnotes and bibliography so considerable thought and scholarly technique has been applied to a very unlikely theme from Herodotus. I recommend this book only for a few ATARNites such as Michael, JJ, Stephen, Dusan, Bede, and a few others. Readers may be very disappointed, perplexed, or immensely inspired.

There are many impressive accolades to this book.

Thank you Jack. I would read it , but only in Slav /Slovak, Czech, Poland, Croatian or Russian../ transtlate  - mi anglish is very low for philosophy misticism visions .
It can be very interesting. In another view i dont doubt that western anglosas and latinohispano culture stay in old misticism come in old days from Asiatic salvage /hunters.
Neolithics agricultular people was more realistic, more "Sokratic"

Where hunter see in bad veather , angry god - neolithic see old meteorologic science.
Where hunter see like stone change in metal he see extraordinary god or ghost metaphisycizm - neolithic see old metalurgie what he doing :)

Katolicizm - and muslim faith litlle stop mistic ghost . But not at all.
Now , when pragmaticizm and hard politic /economic situation and mostly tight living in big cities press to people and Katolicizm is more and more only old custom vithout power, people search another answers- old misticism- in old source-Asia.

Very close to this thema i remembere another mistic- but realy exist thing- Hun gold composite bow.
Which is simbolich mistic bow for Hun leader.

In Europa we found 7 gold plates Hun bows.3 was from Hungaria, 3 from Russia and 1 from Poland. Some of them was ucefull working bows and some of them was simbolic dummy.
Maybe its same story , like Herodot wrote about Skytas custom, that new leader must shoot gold arrow from golden bow, or maybe older custom from Avesta where Yima- mythic first man and King use gold arrow when make world bigger.

There is a fine gold encased bow in the king Tut collection. McLeod believes there might be an older functional bow inside. There is gold leaf on others of Tut's bows.
