Peter; A really grand bow and I bet it was a lot of work and waiting. About how many hours did it take you?
Kyudohund
Hi Jack,

started exactly one year ago with cutting wood for three bows; this is the first one ready. Second waits for the last sinew layer and third body and horn is glued together. So i didn?t count the hours, but, as you know, its a lot. I don?t like nearly all works which has to be done until a bow is shootable, or ready; but when i see the result, i am deeply satisfied.

Peter
radius
looks flawless.

did you use tepeliks to brace it or just the peg board?
Kyudohund
For the first bracing i everytime use tepliks. For me its a must after opening the bow with the asa gezi. I think this two steps are the most important to get a balanced and "healthy" bow.
scemdonmez
Congratulations, balance looks very well. What thick middle of sal and ntn? Handsome bow :)

Cem
Kviljo
Copy that.

Stunning bow! It looks very well made.
Kyudohund
Thank you guys!

Cem, middle of sal: 11,7mm (4 horn, middle of concave shape; 5 wood, lens shape; 3 sinew, straight on back), width 35mm, length of sal 30 cm, ntn: 127 cm. measurement of drawweight was done every inch, lasting ~10 sec/inch, so pulling the bow to 30 inches take over 3 1/2 minutes; shooting drawweight could be ~80 pounds.

Yesterday i shot commercial wooden arrows (32 gramm), draw ~27 inches, 30 m distance; one arrow missed the target, went through the arrow catchnet and left a hole!

I am just going to guess that Adam might say to straighten out the eye; the transition between the bending limb (Sal) and the ridged section Kasan).

I was in a Korean workshop when this was done. The limb was delicately heated on an electric hot plate and the apprentice worked the bow on a floor bench with his sock feet and the floor mat. It was dramatic how much effort and time was spent on just this part. The taste is to make a straight line out of this transition point. You might notice this on true Korean Horn bows.

But I am just making an observation and will let Adam advise in this case.
Adam Karpowicz
I'd leave the tiller as it is, it looks fine for this bow. Nice work.

I like the bend betw. the tips and kasans sharper (smaller radius, but the same angle) and perhaps the kasans less round. Then there is no need for string bridges and the string can be longer = the brace height shorter and the power stroke longer. These are minor details, the bow will do very well with the 30in draw anyway.

ginni
I love the shape of this bow, in my outsider eyes it looks perfect!
Straight kasan/ears are probably little bit shorter and less material, so will be lighter, but I like the rounded shape.
This is my model for future plans.
I just love it.

Peter, where is the thinnest section of the limb? How is made the taper?
Can you show pictures from the shaping process?
Kyudohund
Thanx for your comments and advices.
The bridges i did for secure; next will have non. Now brace height is 19 cm at grip, 3 mm above belly at kasan end.

Ginni, thinnest part of sal is 11 mm thick and 33 mm wide, 3 cm from beginning of kasan.

on the picture below the single part in front (A1) is it; this was 15 mm thick, 40 mm wide. The widest part in sal, before sinewing, is 30 mm.

Cheers Zoltan
Kviljo
Wow! Now that's a proper finish :D
Uli
 perfect
Kyudohund
thank you all for your compliments!

traditionalists please stop reading here ......

Zoltan: on the fotos it looks like gold-decoration, but the seen colour depends on the angle of the light.

its painted with acrylic artist colour. i start with light-grey priming. then the decoration with ultramarine-blue (shadow) and titanium-white (light). a thin layer of gold over the whole bow, two layers cadmium-red. the blue/white underpainting you still can see very good. then the decoration in light-green and last the light points in gold.......

Peter
Alessi Francesco
Hi Peter, beautiful bow.The pattern of the decorations seems more Celtic/Germanic than middle-eastern,right?.The bow has a graceful shape too. What's the final draw weight and mass(I'm always curious)?

Francesco, i forgot:

you are something right about decoration-look.

some time ago i created different decoration designs. in spring i made some knots-sketches to fill empty space in one. then this begin to run. the decoration on this bow was the last i did, before i stopped this play with knots. i had the feeling to get crazy, if i go on!

this design was to good not to use it!

all tradition-fans: please firgive me.

sincerely
Peter
JJ
Great decoration on a great bow... congratulations! Can we see some bigger pics?

I used acrylic colours, too. I didn?t like to have to wait months after each coat;-)
