hello all !

peter from philippines.

i wonder if you guys are interested to see primitive bow and arrow of
aeta /negritoes tribesman and if this somehow corelates with what
you guys are mostly interested at. - primitive archery plus some adventure

anyway , basically its made from palm . but all strings are still from nature.

I went up in the rainforest to gather all of these materials with them.

i learn from them what tree to get these jute that they made string from and learn 'on the spot botany' lesson from them too such as making natural soap from trees, , build fire from bamboo , ate some wild frogs and rice cooked from bamboo and saw the biggest living tree ever !!!! i didnt know there is kind of leaves that you can use as sandpaper and thats what they still use for making their bow. - how primitive.!

well, i havnt talk much for quite some time. my apology.

anyway , hope you guys had sucesses with the commercial hornstrips that some of you have gotten from me.

all the best,
Pete

Hello Pete,

What you says sounds very interesting. Would you post some pics of bows/arrows/etc. and of course of anything related? TIA.
A few time ago, I tryed to find a bamboo dealer in Papua, but had no success.... :(
How is the bamboo availability in Philippines? There is a chance to obtain shafts for a reasonable price?

Thanks, best regards

Gianrico,

i can help you with palm sir if that is what you are referrig to
although bamboo yes we got plenty just dont know exactly what you guys are looking for , some of our bamboo is as big as a bucket\pail . or if this is to be use for arrow , yap the natives colect them , and sometimes heat them to straightened them out.

glad you told me some other related stuff such as cute little blowgun do bears some interest to this frateirnty. i think anybody who is a sportsman will be attractd to this. as long as it got something to do with markmanship and do hit hard in the plywood. like what an arrow does - bring out the kid in all of us no matter how old you are. lol!

let me see if i can attached picture of some bamboo too.

- waterbuffalo honstrips if you need is jsut anytime either black or white albino strips.

best,
Pete

G: I was looking for arrow bamboo. Despite of many researches and e-mail contacts I never find a good deal with arrow bamboo.
It will be fine to obtain already straightened shafts. Can you make me an estimation for a bundle of 100 shafts?
(I do not send a private message, I think this can be interesting for other members too).
About palm sir: is it used for bowmaking?

G: Personally I like all kind of ancient/"primitive" weapons. So the kid that I am is surely interested...

Pete,

For the bow I'm actually shooting the shafts would be about the 11/32 size (9 mm. diameter). Since I'm not very tall, the lenght of shafts can be reduced at 75-80 cm. (the final lenght of my arrows is even more short than this :? ).

Thanking you and Dave for the link, best regards

If you like, have a look at this page for some inspiration.Maybe you already know this site? It is rather expensive, but where else would you find
ready arrows with swan, falcon, hawk or even vulture(traditionally unauspicious) feathers apart from a Kyudo page? A makiwara or unfletched
bamboo arrow from there would still be cheaper than ordering bamboo from Australia.

cheaper bamboo shafts can be found here: click on "Preisliste" then you'll see them for 6 EUR each:

G: Alam,

Thanks for the link. I like a lot kyudo, the only reason that stopped me to practice it is... the bow! I'm in love with short (and recurve) bows...
I hope that feathers are only imitations, or the owner of the site will get in trouble...

G: 15 euros/shaft (18 US$), not so cheap... $_____$

I haven't tried those. But I am planning to craft some nice mughal style bamboo arrows in the near future, that is the reason I also keep my eyes
open for some good bamboo shafts. But they shoudn't be craizy expensive
like some of this kyudo"club" stuff. But if I was rich......you know....
