bleaching horn with H2O2
Does anyone have experience with bleaching buffalohorn using hydrogen peroxide? I tried this now on some thin strips with 30% peroxide, and had a nice result after 3days of bleaching. The horn obtains a nice brownish orange color, but also gets kind of rubbery. I am drying it now and am curious how it bends. These strips would be meant to put on the side of a siyah.
Would be nice if the bending properties are maintained after bleaching, because the effect looks great.

- Hi Alex
I worked with H2O2, and got similar results. strips for more than 5 mm. thickness took 10 days for discoloration. to - become like rubber and have to press on the plane for at least one week. horn loses some of its elasticity and becomes hard and brittle. I do not know how I affect the adhesive process. I glued my syiah plates, hopefully no problems. Be careful, keep your eyes! I would not put these strips on the belly of the bow. only syiahs. you're right. this is beautiful :D
thanks! I dried them now for some days, and they regained their stiffness again, but feel a bit more brittle. I am going to use them as side strips for the siyahs. For belly strips I hesitate as well to bleach them... but the effect would be so nice!
