Chinese Fiberglass Bows

I've seen yesterday the latest model from Juyuanhao (or their colleagues doing fiberglass, I don't know exactly what is their relationship).

Compared to the older model which we used during training, I find the new one both more elegant and more powerful.

Overview :

Seen from the front. The decoration alas is made by an ink-jet printer and then glued on the bow. I would definitely recommend using birch-bark instead which would be both traditional and better looking.
Romain
detail of the siyah. On the older model, it was made of dark resin. Now, the siyahs are made in a sandwich of wood (a darker line lies in the middle) and are longer and more elegant than before. I also think they are lighter than the previous ones.

Finally the handle. As it is laquered, I'm afraid it would get slippery after a few shots. Maybe it should instead be covered in leather or cork the old way.

The thread is "flashy gold" and personnally, I would choose a plainer color... but everybody's free...

Total : I'm quite impressed with the new design and hope to shoot it for a deeper review.

Where can a guy get one of these and about how much would it cost?

Christmas is coming up soon. :D

This is a pre production models, to test its quality, you'll have to wait a bit...

Romain,

Please keep us updated on these. I agree with you that the printed paper backing is not as attractive as it could be. I could take that off and back it with snake skin and wrap the handle with stingray leather or ostrich leg. That would make a very attractive bow.

The shape is very elegant. The shiyas are very graceful looking. Much nicer than a lot of the mongul and hun bows I see on the market.

Do know when these will be available to the market?

Have you done any projections of retail cost? (I will start saving now)

Thanks,
Ray

There are alternative models in artifical materials with a more natural look. We shall get pictures up soon. I have a stock of ten such bows in light draw-weights (35#); but I haven't seen them yet. We have yet to decide retail prices and shipping costs. I hope to let you know at the end of the month.

Thanks Stephen,

I will be waiting.

Me too.

Paper covered bows are mentioned in the book on bow making in Chengde. It is quite an old practice for cheaper bows.

Stephen,

Do you know what draw length the 35# draw weight is at?

If its 35# @ 28" the bow would be a real fun shooter for myself at a 31" draw.

If its 35#@ 31" I may be ineterested in two. One for my oldest daughter and one for my wife.

I would be really interesred in a bow. #35@28-31 would suit me to tee..Let me know when they become available. And I will work something out with you.

Dear all,

Thanks for the interest. But I really have to get my hands on these bows and put them through a quality test before anyone gets them, otherwise a lot of folks are going to end up disappointed.

Steven, Any more info on the Chinese bows yet? Thanks DaleRJ

I had ordered ten bows like the ones in Romain's picture. But the final product was different and not acceptable. :x I have not bothered to test the 'wrong' bows, but perhaps I will just for interest's sake.

Thats a shame.

Did they just send you the wrong thing or did the pic just look better than the actual product?

I was hoping this would turn out to be a good situation.

Steven, any progress on the glass bows? Thanks, DaleRJ

I had a bunch made and they were no good. I've asked for new samples. I plan to offer them together with a beautiful bowcase and quiver set, once the quality is where I want it.
