Cracked Horn

Just did a test fit of the grooved horn to the core, and one of the strips got a small crack where the horn bends at the kasan eye. I stopped trying to bend it around as soon as I saw it. Now what?! Perhaps they have dried out, as they have been in a heated room for months. Should I soak them before proceeding with the glue-up?

Yes you could try soaking them. Dry out then re-try your dry run of the glue up.
If the horn is making you worried best to get another piece.
How exactly do you mean 'cracked'? Have you any photo's?

..or heat the horn in the oven (dry) before trying to bend it

Sorry for the poor photo. The cracks are hairline, but did start to open up when I was bending them around the kasan eye.

I heated this to about 45 degrees C. The three others bent ok. It may have been an imperfection in the horn.

Wet heat, form around the bend and cool? Then glue up? Once safely installed, will always be in compression and the crack may not be an issue?

I should probably replace it....
