The bow from Exhibition dedicated for Pugachev rebellion.
That was exhibition where this bow called as Kazakh. But I don't think so))
What do you think?
P.S Also guys says that russian officers at that time reports that Kazakhs at 18-19 cent. used Quing, Bashkir , Mongol & Buharian bows & their own.

You tell me.
I have a Tatar friend, born in Turkmenistan, lived much of his life in Uzbekistan, now in Texas. If someone calls him an Uzbek he immediately becomes surley. Same with bows; they find themselves a long way from home.

Text in net sayd about bow-
Rare Uzbek/Khazak bow
A wonderful old compound or recurved bow from Central Asia/Uzbekistan - Samarkhand or Bukhara. These powerful bows with broad limbs trace a distinct heritage back to the bows used by the Mongols and Turkic tribes of the Timurid period, to which they are remarkably similar. This bow is boldly decorated with simple floral decorative features, the limbs are broad and thick, the shoulders have raised strings rests typical of oriental and far eastern bows. The bow survives in strung condition which gives one more of an impression of size and power which the unstrung recurved bow doesn't in general, unusually the string in place here is made of many twisted bundled threads of a white fibre coated to the outside with a lacquer or glue. Bows from this region survive in relatively small numbers and rarely in such splendid condition.
Maybe its "your" bow.
Or another interesting entusiast from Kirgizia Almazov say that his grandfather teach him about old archery vith same bows..Interesting bow vith sinew(?) or skin " pleteniem" / malenko pa rusky , ja ne savsem v anglijskom../

Hi Jack! Yes, when I saw it I doubted but ornament on Quiver looked like ours. But I am still searching more information about our bows, & I also wrote to Hermitage curator to help me with some info. I think maybe Dzhungarian (Джунгары) our enemies in the past , has a Quing bow & that's is the reason - why we can find them in Almaty museum.jack farrell wrote:
Rafael; I cannot read Russian but the bow in the pic is Buryat but the quiver is Kazakh. I would agree with your statement above as the Almaty museum is just full of Qing bows and those other nationalities are peoples who might have been in Kazakhstan. There is a place in Almaty called Cossak town (I do not remember how it is said there) which was peopled by loyal troops of this ethnicity who were given this place by, maybe, Nicholas?
You tell me.

Yes, I understand what you saying, that Cossak town means - (Казачья слобода) the russian cossak settlement. Also Татарская слобода - where Tatars first settled. My grandfather was among them when came from Tatarstan. He escaped from the prison after fight with communist comissar.
It's interesting that our's tatar live in Texas :D I think the reason why he don't like when someone called him Uzbek is negative association with Uzbeks & Uzbekistan. We still has problems with them on borders & we had a lot of fights(in the past). Also the problem is a total collapse & authority regime of Islam Karimov.
Thank you very much for pics I saved it in my comp. Do you speak russian?
