strength of a hornbow
Hi all
Can anybody tell where the strength of a hornbow comes from?????
Is it the thickness of the linb or the thickness of the horn or the sinew layers?????
I'm making a new horn bow and I'm looking for answers before i make any failures.

Buy and read Adam Karpowicz' book.
thickness is mainly what determines the poundage.
more horn, more strength
Sorry I don't agree with that - more thickness of the overall limb will give more resistance to bending. Thicker horn in a same dimensions limb won't give great resistance.Uli wrote:

sure. but I think the thickness of wood is limited to 5-6mm in the bending area, whereas horn and sinew are variable.
