Black palm and sinew backing??
Hi,
Has anybody tried to put sinew backing on a Black palm bow?
I have two such bows from Peru. They are rather low in # and thought of trying to raise their power with a sinew baking.

Palm wood is as far as I know pretty stiff and heavy stuff, so I bet a sinew layer or two will not raise the draw weight much. The sinew layer would probably have to be pretty thick to make a worthwhile difference. Also, as you probably know well, sinew layers are a lot of work. It would probably be less time consuming to make another similar but thicker bow from scratch.
It is not at all another bow I am interested in (there are according to irritated wife?s count some 37 such around the house).Kviljo wrote:

What I am curious about is to see if the two material, black palm and sinew can work together. Obviously, in the tropics were the palm comes from this combination due to extreme humidity would not have been a historical option.
So before I spoil some good palm wood, has anybody tried it??
I have never sinewed anyhting yet, but made several dozen self bows. If the palm bow is long enough, I would try shortening it, first.
