Bhutanese bows

In the last WTAF in an exchange of materials I got 4 Bhutanese bows.
Of very simple construction, basically two much tapered but thick bamboo strips overlapping at the grip part sandwiching a none descript piece of cloth or rug ( to dampen vibrations I suppose) all tightly bound at both ends of the grip by two bands of metal wire, these covered by tape,. As picture:

For ease of travel I just cut the offending wire and folded them around their central bamboo pivot (in one, the pivot was just a nail!). Back home I reassembled them substituting the cloth strip for one of leather and the offending rusted wire by flax string and glue ( the flax was Bede Dwyer?s recommendation) and the result were bows from 45# to 60# at presumed stack point.
I have been trying them out, under the initially very skeptical gaze of other club members and we were very surprised at their apparent speed and lack of string follow (up to now). They seem to outperform my all yew self bow (sorry Ascham).
Can anybody here share his experience with these bows? How long lasting are they?
