New book on shooting with a thumbring
I am pleased to announce a new book: "The Art of Shooting a Short Reflexed Bow with a Thumbring" by Adam Swoboda. The book will appear in print on the 10th of November.
The author's background is in competitive target shooting, but his real passion has been the traditional Middle Eastern style with the ring. He either won, or placed very high in many competitions, all the while using his Turkish hornbow (I am proud to say I made it for him). The book covers all aspects of the old methods suplemented with Adam's own experiences. There is a lot of new information, well presented and easy to follow with many colour and b/w pictures. Here is a link to a German site with more information and pictures: http://www.fletchers-corner.de/viewtopi ... 04#p362304

Adam Swoboda interpretes the Sasanid draw as a thumb draw - with a "thumb glove"as there is no archaeological evidence of thumb rings. This would make sense and provide a very strong "pillon"-like lock.
Could you provide some source (pic/text) of evidence for the sasanid thumb-draw (as opposed to 2-finger-draw) ?

This is one great book! It covers all the relevant topics. My compliments to Adam Swoboda!
We already added the book to our shop (http://www.asgaard-archery.nl/index.php ... &f=0&p=822), so people from Western Europe - especially the BeNeLux could save some shipping costs ...

Greetings!
New here and first post!
I was looking through the site when I found this thread...and I was wondering if anyone had read "Kay's Thumbring Book" (sold over on 3 Rivers Archery).

Hi, afaik Kay Koppedreyer's book is a good general introduction, but does not tell too much about technique. Adam Swoboda's book, on the other hand, concentrates on technique. So both books have their place, but are not really comparable.
Cheers,
Arry

Hello Arry!
That is exactly what I was looking for...thank you for your reply!

Here is where you can find the review I wrote after reading Adam Swoboda's book. You might find it useful if you are not sure what the book contains.

Thank you Bede!
But to be honest I went ahead and bough the book already...I'm just reading through it now to get the flavor as it were.
I plan to go through much more slowly once I get a thumbring fabricated.

I believe this is a good course of action, especially if there is no-one around to learn from first-hand. When I started to actually shoot, parts of the book became clearer. An iterative process, really.
I found the book in my mail yesterday.
The illustrations and the style of writing are very accessible. This book is pretty systematic and rich in detail. It covers the essentials and beyond. The chapters about bow maintenance, arrows and variations of thumbrings held quite a few things that I didn't know yet.

Adam Swoboda, the author of the book, has made a short film about the follow-through of the bow hand:

...and also another film on the fast-shooting techniques presented in the book:

I bought the book; it is equivalent to Arab Archery and Saracen Archery. Every thumbring archer should get ahold of it. It goes over every relevant topic (except horsearchery). The book has beautiful pictures, very technical at times, and I believe should come with a dvd! ahah
I am going to try to get Lukas to write a book. I will be his amanuensis if I must. He should at least translate his experience in horsearchery to the world.

It looks like I need to get his book for sure.
Adam that is a fascinating bow he is shooting in the video. How heavy is it? It looks quite wide compared to others that I see. Its a beautiful bow. Would you tell us more about it?

As far as I know the address where the book can be purchased has changed and now is: http://thumbringarcher.org/ The address is very much similar to an old one - only one letter has changed.
Ordered one today and looking forward to get it. There is a german version too( i am german..). Does anyone know why that is 20 pages shorter than the english book? And what happened to the cover
