Arab bow?
Hi Folks,
I was reading and translating Faris' Elmers "Arab Archery" to German, lately. During this process I became curious, what an "Arab bow" looks like, but I do not find any pictures while searching the www, and the description in the book is quite ... vague because of all the variations for stunt shooting, warfare selfbows, laminated bows, and so on ...
Has anyone of you pictures of an Arab composite bow?

In the book Turc Okculugu, resim 142 and 143. Visit the Traditional Asian Archery group on FB to see several.
Thank you very much! I have ordered the "T?rk Ok?uluğu" book, and have to wait now. The Yrzi-bow is interesting, too, and not far from ar-Raqqah ...
Nice little puzzlepieces :)

I examined the Arab bows when I visited the Topkapi Palace. The bows were straightish horn bows, narrow and lighter weight. Could be target or hunting bows.

Yes, these bows do look light. Because of the great success of the Arab expansion in the mid first millennium, I have always wondered what those bows might have looked like. maybe they had Hunnic types and the later version is like the remake of the Korean bow for target purposes.
If you mean specific Arab- from Arabian peninsula -maybe.But if you mean that big - called "Arab expansion" its more or less same mix from turcic , old Persians /Iraq, Iran/ tribes .
Vith his bows too...
