George,
İf I were you I will make 29 cm sal, 19 cm kasan. Elm is not very good for grip, maple is better.

As my first turkish bow I want to more working part in Sal. I have good experience with Hungarian style bow, but it's the first turkish bow..
Thanks for the advice.

Love Hungarian style bows, perhaps you can start a new thread and tell us more about them as I would like to build one myself some day.

Love the bows. Also the Discus planted aquarium.
Why don't you try Cornus mas for the handle? It's plentiful in your country.
I realized it's my first post so I need to present myself a little bit.
I am Patriciu from Bucharest/Romania. Made a few bows. Best ones from Cornus mas. None horn composite yet. The knowledge assimilates slowly. Now I am learning to lay sinew and struggling with "character" wood. Correcting wood with sinew already on is quite a challenge. Been more active on Paleoplanet. I am still in reading phase, here.

Good luck but I would be very worried about the knot on the edge of the kasan. Personally I wouldn't have used that wood and it is a better idea to keep the core thick before gluing the horn so there is a smaller chance of twist being induced.
I think I'll glued horn with press - not will be а twist. As for the knot, there is still work in kasan area and knot will fall.mikekeswick wrote:

Horn will be glued in this way

Hi Georgi,
I like your project very much. Love this handle (i think grip is 10 cm in splice section, right?, i will use 12 cm for my Serbian (Dečani) bow), i also considered to use elm but i gave up since i found good piece of ash. I hope you will manage with this knot (wish you luck!!!).
What is width of your grip in its widest part (middle, also what is the width of V splice at its base)?
BTW, your Hungarian bows special first one look extraordinary.
Поздравление и ти пожелавам късмет

Зоран, in its middle grip width is 26mm and also the basis for V splice and 32mm thick. Total length - 29cm by 110cm is bright and 9cm for V splice. Project will be delayed a bit - cannot find a good horn.
Thanks ..
Thanks ..
Thank you Georgi!
Can you ask your Bulgarian colleagues for horn? Perhaps they can help you instead to wait them to come from Scottland?

Has there been any progress with this bow George?
This project is a little sleep. Now I'm working on a other Crimean - Tartar bow. Will show progress as follows.mikekeswick wrote:
