polish cavalry bow

Looking a ceremonial bow.

Łukasz, ten łuk z Muzeum Czartoryskich jest źle opisany. Werner wcale do niego nie zaglądał. Nie ma ani śladu otwierana obszycia sk?rzanego, ani jakiejkolwiek wzmianki na temat otwierania w dokumentacji muzealnej. Poza tym, jest to najprawdopodobniej jakaś pr?ba ratowania uszkodzonego łuku, i obszycie (dość luźne) sk?rą i nakładki mosiężne są wyraźnie wt?rne. Miałem to w ręku i dokładnie oglądałem z obecnym kustoszem. Parę lat temu, razem z Norbertem Kopczyńskim. Teoria o "polskim" łuku jest raczej na pewno "wyssana z palca". Jak i parę innych teorii muzealnik?w :)

It is not any special Polish bow type. Most probably it is damaged bow covered with leader and reinforced by metal plates. It was wrong information in the old Polish book (J. Werner, Polska broń - Łuk i kusza, Ossolineum, Wrocław, 1974. )

Andrzej is correct about the bow. As far as I know it is the only example of such construction and could be it was not meant to be a functional bow.

Im not sure. Such shape of bow have a very good potential for use heavy, long arrow - long sal and short kasan/tip section . I have made a lot of bows in similar length and recurve from wood and sinew, unexpecting good performance. I have information that such bows made Ormian who live in Lwow. I agree this bow is not a master bowyer work but in my opinion could be functional bow. Brass plate are not reinforcement but kind of decoration - grip is in this same style like kasan. When I find some time in this winter I try to make replica, we will see.

SO what do think was the draw weight and draw length of that Polish bow?

People often make effective bows with that basic profile pulling in the 60 pound range at a typical draw length.
Depends on if it is just wood or wood/sinew and the type of wood.
