sinew..again
Some days ago I've posted a topic to know
what kind of tool one can uses to finishing sinew, and how
much time occurs (after the sinew application) to a composite
bow can be finished and used.
There are many espert bowyers in this forum: nobody can help me?
Thanks

It is not possible to give a definite "drying time" for composite bows I think. Too many factors have influence: humidity, amount of sinew, quality of glue used etc...
I let sinewed wooden bows sit for about four weeks after the third course of sinew and did not have any problems. I don?t have practical experience with hornbows so far...

hi amatuccio,
for to finsih the sinew-backing use a cabinet scraper, file or sand it very carefully.Or back it with birchbark,rawhide,snake-or fishskin or just paint it.Then oil or wax the whole bow.
The best you can do is to let the whole bow dry for at least 2 month,6 month would be better, one year would be much better.

I'm not sure what is meant by 'scraping', 'sanding' or 'finishing' sinew on bows. Clearly, once the sinew is down and dry, it must not be treated in any way that will break any of the sinew strands.
As I understand it, when the last layer of sinew is down and wet, the job is done. You do nothing but cover it. It is not always even necesarry to cover it, unless it is going to be exposed to humidity.
