Hi everybody,

I just bought a Kassai Buzzard-Hunter, hungarian bow.
I'm new to this kind of bows, I used to shot a flatbow and a recurve handmade takedown, always with instinctive shooting.
The flatbow has a rest pad on the handle and, of course, the recurve has a sight window, so setting the nock point was easy.

But the lack of informations and experience about hungarian and similar bows are making hard times for the Kassai bow setup.

The Kassai bow has no rest point marked anywhere and noone has been able to tell me the correct brace height, so I can't set the nock point.

can anyone here help me with this bow?

Thanks.

Shooting with these bows is mostly without any nock points or arrow rests.
As I recal some archers from Austria used leather on the string as finger protection and nock point for the Kassai style. The brace high should be given by the string your bow came with. Just put it without twisting on the bow.
You should either look for other archers around you or look on YouTube for tutorials.

On these bows you usually shoot from the top of your bowhand.
Find where the arrow should pass the handle of the bow and mark it, grip below, and always shoot from the same place. Then set your nocking point on the string accordingly.

On Kassai's website the Kassai Bussard Hunters string length is given as 122 cm. If you measure the brace hight with that string length I would guess you should be close?

Thanks for the nswers.

The matter is that when I string the bow without twisting the string, the string lenght is 127cm. And if I try to twist the string to reach the 122cm lenght, the string loops get twisted too. And in any way I cannot reach the 122cm lenght, can't get shorter than about 125 cm...

As said I don't have experience with this kind of bows, so I don't know what to do at all...

I tried to search the internet for detailed setup instructions but it seems that nowadays it's all about recurve and compound... And looking for pictures or videos of this kind of bow the resolution is always too poor to understand how the string is set up...

EDIT:
added a picture of the stringed bow, string untwisted

You don't say what brace hight you get in the picure of the strung bow with no twist in the string?

I have looked at Grozers website (http://www.grozerarchery.com), he gives brace hights for his bows. For the Avar and Hungarian bows he gives brace hights around 7 inches, or 17-18cm.
I myself have a Grozer Hungarian extra3. With original string, 121cm, and very little twist, I get a brace hight just below 7 inches. On the website it is given as 7 1/4 inch. (my string is old and used, probably stretched a little)

The only Kassai bow I have managed to find a brace hight for is the "Bear", or "Vazul", given as 20,5-21 cm or about 8 inches, but with a 140cm long string, so it seems to be a much larger bow.

My best guess would be that if you have a brace hight around 7 inches with the original string untwisted ( or just barely twisted) you should be ok.
The alternative would be a email to Kassai and ask?

brace height is about 6 1/2 inches in the middle of the riser and about 7 inches on the top of the bowhand (about one inch below the binding of the upper limb).

I mailed the shop where i bought this bow and they told me brace height should be 20cm (7 7/8 inches).
Then they asked for the string lenght. I'm now waiting for an answer...

Mystery solved!
The string was for another bow model, with the right srting everything seems to be fine.
Thank you all for the help
