Turkish/Mughal warbow?
On my journey of trying to learn how to make horn bows, I came across this interesting looking bow. It is 49 inches between the nocks along the belly and has white faceted horn. Once, when it was still in use, it was refurbished with replaced tips connected with steel brackets. At the same time the bow was stripped and re-decorated. The outer part of the kasans are extra massive due to a sinew wrapping underneath the decoration securing the steel brackets.
I did post the same pictures on facebook some time ago, and it turned out that there does exist other bows with very similar shape and surface, including one in a Swedish collection. However, pinpointing the age and origin of this bow or type of bow, is still a bit unclear.
The overall shape is clearly Turkish/Ottoman, but the grip has a profile that is very similar to the grips of Mughal bows. The decoration is also not typical Turkish. The pattern is repeated along the whole bow: black circles with six golden dots around, with larger red/brown oval-ish shapes along the middle.
For size comparison, the last picture shows it together with a 41" flight bow and a Mughal bow.
I hope you might find it interesting. Don't hesitate to comment if you've got some ideas on it's origin.
