over 400fps bow

I have recently tested a very heavy flight bow, about 175lb at 27.5in. The arrow velocity with a 14.5g (223 grains) arrow was 404fps (Dacron string) and 436fps (FF string).

The same bow shot 14.5g arrow to 790m (860 yards) last May. I think I posted the weight at 163lb at the time, which was (probably) a mistake.

I believe with good arrows such bows can easily hit 800m, possibly even 850m.

All I can say is WOW!! 400 fps and 800+ meters!?? Unreal!

Fantastic! :D

 Congratulations! That's simply amazing - again!
I'm curious how you measured the speed of the arrow. Those lightweight arrows surely can't like the stop in a target. I've been thinking about mounting the kronograph to the shooting machine, to let the arrows loose some energy before they land. Gah, even just launching such lightweight arrows from such a bow is a feat in its own... :D

Yes, shop-testing the heavy weight bows is a dangerous business. A 100+ gram arrow from the same bow shot through 4in of foam, a 3/4in conveyor belt, 20ga steel and a wood door... For light arrows I use a sacrificial 1/4in dowels with plastic nocks, weighted as needed to match the desired arrow mass. They all break hitting the foam target on every shot, with splinters flying in everywhere (a helmet and goggles are definitely recommended).

Hahaha, that gives an interesting picture of what has been going on in your shop! It sounds quite scary, to be honest. I looked up your previous comments about this bow, and must say I'm impressed with how narrow it is. 27mm sal is what I would use up to perhaps half the draw weight, hehe. Shows how elastic these materials can be. It must be like a longbow at an inch away from explosion. Crazy stuff

Wow! That sounds great, congrats!

Just have to find the right person who could handle that monster with ring and siper ;)

Great results! Would be nice to hear that speed in person... :)

No one commented on the Fastflight string, 8% more speed. But how did you make it work? All i have read is that if you shoot heavy bows with fastflight the nocks breake and many cases also the bow!
So what did you do differently this time? I want to shoot fastflight too... :D

Those numbers are impressive.
I too wonder about the strong materials. It has been my experience that the fast flight is hard even on synthetic materials.
Although padding the loops help tremendously.

Adam can you share any photos of the bow?

436 fps :!: :?:  INCREDIBLE Adam, also, what type of bow was it, Turkish? Tatar?
