. . . a refugee from FaceBook . . .
I feel the need to curb the insidious of the Electronic Bubble . . .
particularly the “social networks” of Facebook & Twitter.
So.
I deleted FB (I have never subscribed to Twitter).
But.
I seek meaningful information and “doing” of Asiatic archery . . .
anyone share this point of view regarding “social networking” ?
If interested I intend to post here - Atarn - and I encourage people of like minds to also post . . .

Welcome John the Scyth! I don't blame you on ditching FB and lots of "social media" stuff. Even dedicated pages like ATARN have gotten too political or racist it seems. I still keep up with my "interest group" pages on Farcebook, and simply ignore anything else.
Glad to have you and have you posting here. My hope is that we can re-vitalize this site and leave behind the "talking heads". ATARN.net has always been about detailed descriptions and explorations of subjects -- which simply isn't possible on FB. I try to do my part by suggesting that "deep subjects" be moved here for in-depth discussion. With any luck....

Good on you :)
I'll take some pictures of my latest bows and post in the next few days.

The “drag and drop” pictures from my I-pad air doesn’t work . . .
How do I make the function on my pictures ?

IMAGE or the Picture button work by having photos stored some place like Photobucket (boo!) or Imgur, where you get an "image" string" which is them put between the IMG tags here.
I use the Attachments tab at the bottom of the Text window to find and place photos directly from my computer. Pics can be just attached or put inline in the body of your message. If you Drag and Drop, that's apparently what happens -- the picture goes to the Attachments function.

Welcome!
I'm looking forward to your posts. And for the the a-social-media ... I'm still not understanding why anyone registered there in the first place, but that's a too boring topic for this forum. Archery is sooooo much more exciting!
Anyway: It's cool you found your way here.

I use Facebook to fruitfully connect to lots of people. I also use it for the occasional discussion with someone with wildly different worldviews, and I think it's good to for a healthy mind to be exposed to different views regularly. In fact, I couldn't do what I do without Facebook, which is working in antique arms and armor full-time. That answers why people would sign up. To connect with others.
People who don't want to be on Facebook, fine, to each his own. That's why I hired some people to update this forum to the latest versions, so they can liven up the old ATARN once again. I expect plenty of people to use both once more content is provided here.
But then let's not use this forum to bash a different ATARN platform and the people active in them.
ATARN on Facebook is a very lively group and an effective means to spread interest in and knowledge of traditional archery cultures.

Peter -
My decision was a personal issue.
From my last Facebook post to study group :
“To All -
I am deleting FaceBook.
I have no ideas what nefarious purposes or venues to which my personal & public information will be used by FaceBook. . .
I cherish my sense of honor and truthfulness above all.
I will continue to post on Atarn.net
This is no blame to either Justin or Peter (or the many participants to the study group)
but strictly to the management of FaceBook .”
So.
Let’s from on from that . . . to Asiatic archery.
regards,
John

Hi John,
Thanks. I guess I've missed that one!
I fully understand your reasons.
To be frank, my opinion on Facebook also changed negatively mostly for the reasons you mention.
But then I can't leave because I've got so much up and running there.
I was mainly addressing to the others, who seem to sneer at the people still on Facebook, which I think is unjust because there are a lot of good people there.
Peter

I didn't see any sneering at specific people? The 'sneers' were, I think, directed at the rather strange entity that is facebook.
Long may this forum live!
