A simple test to establish release and grip problems in regards to arrow cast and handshock . . .

Conditions :

1.) a short Indo-Asian Static Recurve Bows (horsebow)

2.) a thumb ring

3.) the bow is shot from the “opposite” of the grip (Asian method)

Take a smal piecel of masking tape (the cheaper the better i.e. thin) and put on the arrow strike . . . picture #1

Now shoot the arrows successively :

1.) a ripped up piece of tape meaning you have real problems about your release or the grip or both . . .

2.) a moderate wear pattern - almost breaking through the tape - meaning you have to take corrective actions . . .

3.) a hint of a smudge (picture #2 after 200 plus shots) - from the fletching and not breaking the tape - meaning you are releasing and your grip is fine . . .

I use this method to evaluate my release and grip . . .

it took me nine months to get a clean & unbroken of piece of tape (consistently - about 100 shots plus -)

. . . although it was compounded by partial paralysis from a stroke . . .

I keep it up to keep me honest about my Form . . .
