Jon,
I have a copy and the book has some good looking bows and a few exceptional arrows.

I believe Adam has been to the Museum.

I may just have to bid on it. Are there a lot of bows, armour pics in the book?

Jon,
I think I have the English version. I will check at home. If I remember correctly there was armour, swords, bows and guns. You might be able to buy the English version directly from the Museum.

The English version is titled Turkish Military Museum Collections and is ISBN: 975-409-048-3. On the front cover and inside the title is shortened to Military Museum Collections.

The book has a chapter on archery and extensive illustrations of swords, daggers and armour. Some things are rare, like an early silk covered mail jacket. The archery section has bows, arrows, arrow cases, bow cases and an archery certificate dated 1786 written by the son of Mustafa Kani.

Hi everybody,

This catalog is available in English and at Military Museum in Istanbul. I have good relations with the management of the museum and we visited them with Adam as well. Previously I underwent a short research in the museum to get the exact measurements of some bows and arrows. The museum has a brilliant military collection, probably one of the richest of the world. Ottoman tents, arms and armours, both old and modern are to see. But the archery related items are not too much. But in the exhibition there are many items like bow-and arrowmaking tools, bows, arrows, thumbrings and sipers. During our visit the commander has been so kind to ask the content in the depot and we were told there are only a few pieces additional to that in the exhibition. Anyway, the museum is worth to visit. It's only 5 minutes walk from where I live and I really love to visit it in any occasion.

Bede,

The chronology must be wrong since Mustafa Kani bin Mehmed (the author of Telhis-i Resail?'r rumat) completed his famous book in 1838 and represented to II. Mahmoud. In 1700's the author cannot be his son.
Bede
Murat,
Maybe we should check the original document for its date. Museums sometimes make mistakes and so do publishers. Does it say the same thing in the Turkish version?

Thanks for the heads up. I will email the good folks at the museum and see if the English version is available.

What a wonderful museum. If olt I could have visited it with Murat or Adam.

Over and Over I realize how many golden opportunities I missed in Istanbul.

My Lesson: Never take an evil girlfriend on vacation.
