split in the horn

I have purchased a mongolian horn bow. It seems very nice and shoot well, but just after two or three times I have used it, I have noticed a little split in the horn (see pics). Does it is an irreparable situation ? How I can intervene on it, at least to stopping split to enlarge ?

Thanks

Jiao,

I thing the split has occurred at first stringing, I have used bow just two times and I don't have let it strung for many time. What do you means with "horn fibers" ? Do you say to aplly sinew on the split ?

hi amutuccio,

wrap the split-region with sinew- or strong linen-fibres soaked in hideglue, at least 1cm at both sides of the split. Let the wrapping dry for 2 days.

I don?t want to offend someone, but this bow seems to be done very crude. The horn looks very poor, its fibres are cutted, the sinewbacking and the birchbark does not cover the edges of the horn.

As long as the bow shoots well don?t worry.

a antique(hornbow) seller tell me in china qinghai province, they are used
intestines of sheep wrap the horn ,i am not know why they are not used sinew for this job

Redhawk, you are right, effectively the horn in the region were split
occurred it's very poor.
For Jiao, maybe your odl bowyer used intestines of sheep because they
are more long than sinew, and more suitable for well wrap the bow. In effect, I've see repair bow with fishing-thread today, maybe this replace the ancient technique rapresented by intestine sheep.
