"raw" modern mongolian bow
Hey guys,
Recently I got to see one more modern mongolian hornbow which a friend brought from Mongolia.
Its quite tall ( about 173 cm when braced ), and has no bark cover (why?), and a smooth draw (about 30 lbs).
Look - the horn tips on the siyahs are a good idea, no ?
greetings, Uli

Do you mean the sinew is left exposed on the back of the limbs ?
exactly.
If it is not sicret: how much did you frend pay for that bow?
I think that this is an old Mongolian bow from the 1950s (or earlier) that has been reconditioned. The shape of the grip and limbs reminds be very much of the 50 bows in Mongolian style that Ju Yuan Hao made for Choijelsuren in the late 1950s. The originals had snakeskin over the sinew and had a red star on each side of the grip.
The siyahs and tips are stylish but not traditional.

Stephen, thats interesting. I cannot estimate how old the materials are. Nonetheless, I was told that a mongolian bowyer made the bow.
Rapsod, the price was 350 USD, some arrows included.

It is nice bow. Cheap. Who say something about 500$ for "show up" bow in shop window?
