Bamboo for arrows
I would like to start making my own arrows from bamboo. Does anyone here know of a good source for the raw bamboo at a decent price? Is Tonkin cane acceptable?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I don`t know the name of it. I got it out of the garden. Its about 2,50 meters high and about 10mm thick. I use the thickness about 11mm. It shrinks when it dries down to arond 7 or 8mm. I couldn`t find out spineproblems as with pineshafts. The are still straight after I straightened them with heat and they are much stronger as other wooden shafts.
Look around for Pseudosasa japonica (Japanese arrow bamboo); it's grown in the States and other countries.

Found many sources for "arrow bamboo" plants, but not for stakes or poles. Can find several sources for Tonkin cane in arrow sizes and lengths. Would it be worth it to order a bale, sort out the good ones, and use the rest for fencing or something?
What about Jaap Koppedreyer? I think he sells them.

That helped! Found http://www.yumi-bows.com/yumi.html and http://www.bowsforpros.com/ both have bamboo arrows.
I had read that Jaap was growing bamboo in Georgia, but didn't have his yumi website.
