Nice pic !

One archer holds a shield while shooting. They both chose a strange way to kneel.

Romain,
These illustrations come from a book written in Persian (Farsi) in India compiled from older sources. The illustrations are contemporary with the manuscript copy.

In Middle Eastern and Indo-Persian archery there were several positions for shooting that are translated as squatting in English. Almost every leg position imaginable was described and used. In most of the cultures involved, chairs were not very common so people maintained great flexibility.

I have tried some of these positions and I find some are very stable and others really stretch you. I suppose it is what you are used to.
