I am hoping to make it to Korea this year for their championship in August. Has anyone been before? Mr Selby I know you have.....

Can anyone a) tell me how on earth I get there, b) what is the accomodation like, c) what sort of budget I need for 7 days there and d) any useful tips?

Much appreciated

I was there in 2007 and had a wonderfull time!

- How to get there: You fly into Kimpo International Airport then take a bus to the Seoul bus station and grab a bus to Sokcho. The bus ride to Sokcho takes about 3 and a half hours, costs around $40CAD, and leave every hour from Seoul. Depending what time you arrive, and how long your flight was you might want to consider staying in a hotel before heading to Sokcho.

- I had friends from the US going to the competition as well so we all rented a guest house together that was around the corner from the competition site. Between the 5 of us staying for 6 or 7 days the cost was quite reasonable, I want to say I paid around $150CAD - $170CAD for my share but I'm not 100% sure?
I'm not sure what the other options are for accomidations.

- I whent there with $800 CAD and came home with a little of it. The guest house has a small kitchen, we all pitched in for groceries so eatting was fairly cheap. A friend who's been there before said the other year he'd gone they all ate out alot more. I should note that I also whent into Seoul my last night in Korea to see some of the markets and shop.

Usefull Tips
Keep in mind I've only been there once.
- During the actuall competition days we had a translater, the days before we didn't so somtimes things can get confusing. Just go with the flow!
- Depending on the time difference your facing you might want to prepare for massive jet lag. For me it was 12 hours, my day was thier night. So I packed Tylenol PM cold/flu pills to help me sleep through the night the first few days.

If you want to e-mail me feel free.

I was there and it was a wonderful experience. It's like a dream, the people are so friendly and the organisation and accommodation was splendid.

Next year the competition will held in Seoul. It's going to be the greatest Korean competition ever, including archer on chariots.
