An Invitation
In September 2008 the FITA World Field Archery Championship will be held in South Wales. As an organisation, they do not recognise Traditional archery, therefore it will feature cams, pulleys, pressure buttons, clickers and stabilisers.
My club, will be hosting three days of preliminary rounds at our field course in Glyncornel. The team and individual finals will take place at Saint Fagans National History Museum of Wales.
We staged a test event last year which was very successful and as a marshall, I had a lot of feedback from visitors and spectators. The most frequent questions were about Traditional equipment .. this gave me an idea.
Saint Fagans is a large open site, featuring many old buildings that have been taken down, transported and painstakingly rebuilt to portray our national history. In other words, a wonderful stage to promote 'Historical' archery. I approached the officials and offered my suggestion for an exhibition/demonstration event featuring bows that have a place in history. I have been given the go ahead to stage this event in a central area, on the day of the individual finals, Saturday 6th September.
I am hoping to get enough archers to promote 'real' bows and give the visitors a good demonstration.
If anyone is interested in attending, please let me know.
(Stephen, I posted this in 'general discussion' as it is not a competition event. Hope that's ok)

No problem. I support this event. The best thing would be to contact Csaba Grozer to see whether he would consider a trip to Wales bringing a good selection of his bows (which he could sell to pay his costs.)
As a Welshman (Pentrefelin, Gwynedd), I would like to support the event myself; but it could be difficult for me at that time. Still, I'll consider.

Thanks for the support, Stephen.
I have contacted Csaba Grozer and also Reiner Wustefeld of Eastern Archery.
It seems I have been offered the central field where the 60m final shoot off was held last year. This is a great location where equipment is secure and the public have a good view. I hope to print up some history about the various bows and cultures, the demonstration will be informal and is aimed at generating interest in Traditional archery. It's bound to be more interesting to watch because they will be able to see the arrows in flight.

Update.
I have been contacted by a group of English Warbow archers. The bows they use are full compass, high altitude Italian yew in the region of 120# plus and they do armour piercing displays so it will be interesting to see how they perform.

What's the exact date of your event?

Saturday 6th September.
Can't make it. Pity.
No worries, it's a long journey and I would want 100% confirmation from the various archers (eg the Warbows) before I would expect anyone to make that commitment. Imagine travelling all that way to find only a handful of local archers had turned up?
I will ask for a favour though, regarding the fact sheets. Would it be ok to use some of the bow pictures featured here in the image archives?
