New Archery Club in Korea

Two days ago, I met with some colleagues from the university I teach at here in Korea. We had an archery club organizational dinner. They are very excited about getting it formed. I brought lots of show-and-tell items, which added to the interest. We would like to incorporate any and all forms of archery that people are interested in, such as Korean trad, Olympic, Western trad (3D, novelty shoots, etc.), archery for children, etc. Besides the university, there is also a high school on campus, and the principal is my next door neighbor; he would like to make it a school function, too--he wants me to put on a demo this fall. Lots of international profs have their families here, and the kids are very excited about it; I plan to look into low-cost bows for the youth (lots of choices here in Korea).

The university owns lots of land, much of it forested and untouched. I hope to meet with the prof who is in charge of policy and planning for the university, so that we can look into borrowing land for our club. We have to have a minimum of fifteen members signed up to be recognized by the student gov't (no problem), and the club has to operate successfully for one year to receive recognition from the university.

The possibilities seem endless. We will be the only predominantly English-speaking club in Korea. Korean archery will reach an even larger int'l audience. Int'l archery cultures will impact Korea even more. Lots of kids getting started into archery, which can be a catalyst for archery in general. The list goes on and on.

Great news. :D
I hope that ATARN can become a sponsoring organization. Let me know what we can do. There was one member of Hurim Jung who was into horseback riding. Perhaps there is another aspect you could pursue...

Thanks, Stephen. That's a great idea and I'll look into affiliating ATARN as we get the club going.

I think horse archery may also be something we can do in the future. As a matter of fact, I was talking with our founding members about you (one of the members is a prof in the law school)--I thought it would be great to have to visit and not only give a seminar on IPR, but also maybe give one on horse archery
