Greetings to all,
I am a new member to this forum, very glad to find it. Most of the other traditional archery sites seem to deal by and large with the hunting aspect and not so much the sport as a whole. Love this site! Grew up shooting traditional recurves and Hill style longbows. Have always since childhood been keenly interested in the Asian composit hornbows. But knew not where to find them.
Now with the miracle of the internet I can learn and find so much more, so jazzed about the whole thing.
Getting ready to take the step of the purchase of an Asian bow. The two that really catch my eye are a bamboo South Indian bow by Jaap Koppedrayer of Yumi bows and one of Lukas Novotny of Saluki's horn bows He has so many styles . My head is spinning.
Both of these guys work looks outstanding, spendy yes but outstanding.
So the saving up the $$$ has started.
Any input from the members here to help me along this new archery trail would be greatly appreciated.
All the best,
Alan

P.S, I also ride and am very excited about mounted archery.

Welcome, Alan.

Buy something cheap, light-weight and inexpensive until you have got the technique sorted. If you start out on a good horn-bow (which are always medium to heavy draw-wights) you risk wrecking both your technique and the bow.

Craftsman-made hornbows never come with a warranty.

Thanx very much for the advice Stephen. This has always been my intention, but considering the sometimes lengthy wait time on custom bows thought that I would start to sort them out while I develop the basics on a less expensive bow. I fact I have been talking to Japp Koppedrayer about his laminated Mongolian bow as a starting point . I have lusted after his South Indian laminated bamboo bow as well for a long time. As far as a horn bow I have wanted one from Lucas Novotny for just as long. There are so many choices that it tends to make my head spin.

Ask Holm Neumann to show you the take-down bow I sent him. They are cheap and easy to post. I have them here for immediate despatch if you're interested.
