This is the reconstruction of the Scythian goritos according to the findings I?ve studied when I have been in Siberia last February. The container is made of hide (tanned with fat), the cap is made of fealth. The belt is also made of fealth. A wooden slat is keeping the goritos straight, it is adorned with paintings or graved in the typical Scythian manner.
Archaeologists have found and stored a lot of these fealth- caps, fealth- belts and adorned slats. The length of such a slat is always the same, about 74cm. The container for the arrows is about 55cm, arrowlength of 90% of hundreds of arrow- findings I?ve seen in Siberia is 26".
All the goriti excavated in Scythian graves (kurgan) were found closed by the fealth- cap, the bow inside together with at least 4 arrows.
The local archaeologists interpreted the "closed goritos" as follows:
the archer comes in peace
the archer respects his king, chief........
the archer has died

My first reconstructions of the bow- finding of olon kurin gol is ready, the arrows too, but I?m not allowed to publish them before upcoming September.

This reconstruction largely agrees with the gorytoi that I saw in Xinjiang. In our excavations, all males (other than shamans) were buried with a bow, while all females were buried with cosmetics containers and weaving equipment.

A tantalising preview, looking forward to seeing the bow.

Michael; that bow cover looks like a hat. Did you try it? -j-

Jack, I thought the same. Could it be there was a sort of dual purpose?

I had the same thought too, could it really be?
We can see depictions of Scythians wearing hats resembling the above felt cap.

I didn?t try to wear the cover like a hat. But I should give this idea a try......

These covers were always found at the top of the goritos around the lower end of the bow.

They?ve excavated female mummies equipped with weapons too, bows, knifes......
