Chinese Bow

Please note that Chinese hornbows, which have large siyahs, perform badly at a low draw-weight. I don't think that any Chinese hornbow less than 40# would be effective.
Hownbows in 'Mongolian' style made by Csaba Grozer are strong and reliable; but are not exactly the same as Chinese traditional bows - especially in the decoration. Lucas Novotny makes beautiful Chinese bows, but the price is at the higher end.

I understand that some better hornbows are being made in China now; but I haven't seen them myself yet.

How can I get a Chinese bow? I shoot 40 pounds, and I love china, and chinese bowmaking is a lost art, so I would love to buy a chinese horn bow from a more economical seller than lukas novotny. I mean no disrespect to Lukas, because he and I are good friends.
Hey, could you post a few photos of your Uncle's bows please?CaesarSPQR wrote:

Thanks :-)
We don't have horn bows, but we do carry Manchu style bows...mongolianarcher wrote:

unusual technique , if you ask me .
Jaap Koppedrayer made mine. It has natural bark covering and ray-skin covered ears and was even painted with the traditional dyes and finished with urushi lacquer. It turned out a little lighter than expected so he will make me another but this one already is a delight to draw and shoot.mongolianarcher wrote:

Lukas Novotny is an excellent bowyer as well but he refuses to make the ears as long as the actual Manchu type bow. (And so do most other bowyers, even those making glassfiber replicas, because longer ears need a higher standard of precision in making and are not too effective at the more popular lower draw lengths.)
