Hi there, basically I started making my own bows a while ago and have made various designs so far- English yew longbows, American style flatbows both recurved and sinew backed etc. However since reading about composite bows i've been dying to have a go at making one but didn't have the faintest idea how they were actually put together. Anyway i'm starting to it after having found this site and done some more research but I could really do with sets of dimensions/plans/build-alongs etc for actual working bows and can't seem to find any on the net? Ideally can anybody recommend some good books that deal with the actual construction of composite bows and the reasons for the various designs? So far I have got myself a pair of water buffalo horns and have started working one of them into strip form with a rasp and a cabinet scraper and have started to straighten it out by steaming it and then clamping it between two solid planks. I've got plenty of sinew and a good hardwood supplier nearby!! What types of wood are best for the core and syhias?
Any help will be gratfully received!! Mike

Mike; Go to the commercial section and find the Turkish bow by our own Adam Karpowicz. The price is good and he has all the info, all tried and true information by an experienced yusta (master) You may be a little overwhelmed but your feet are already wet so go ahead. -j-

and continuing Jack's advice- get a copy of Tom Duvernay's DVD on Korean bow making. It gives a third dimension to Adam's excellent book.

We are so enthusiastic because we have seen much of what has gone into these productions and we know how good it is.

Many thanks for the advice! Perfect! I shall be ordering both the book and dvd very soon. When i've studied them both I might post some pics of my first attempt and hopefully you folks might be able to help keep me on track!
