MA demo at SCA event
We went to the Grande THing in St Helens OR, USA and did a mounted archery demo. It was a lot of fun and Katie did a great job of runing everything smoothly.
I'm on the white shirt, she is in the green, and Holm Neumann is in the mongol hat.
Unfortunately the youtube one isn't working, so you'll ahve to go to my site and look at the embeded video on the front page under "When I'm not in the smithy", at the very top.

Hah, yeah, though we all shot very well. Our over-all grouping was about 80% in the center of the korean targets, so I'm pleased with our first event of the season.
Alan, you are officially and gladly welcomed to join and help any expos Holm is doing (so sayeth holm) and for that matter, you can hang out with katie and I anytime;) Want to go to an-tir west war?

great....what is your distance between track and target?
For demos within an arena we keep the target and track distances fairly safe, and place the targets on the ground. For that demo, we had the targets around 6-8 meters away from the track depending on the angle of the shot. SCA events are very conservative when it comes to safety, so we try to do things within their comfort zones ;) (like no aerial targets, or long shots).
For practice at home, we practice both the Korean and European course styles, as well as rolling targets, aerials, Mogu etc. But for demos we keep it to what ever is "safe" by the event host's standards.

Jak, I hope we do meet some day. I have not yet made it to a competition in Europe. But I would love to come to a championship in France or Germany if I can save enough money.
Yes, you can post pictures of me in your blog :)

While doing the very last preparations for the first ever competition in
Sweden this weekend (30-31 May) I have to say it would be wonderful if someone from the US could make it to EOCHA this year!

I would love to get to some events and meet everyone. Katie is going to the Korean Competition and having fun gallivanting around asia, but I'll have to wait til the next one. Need to save money!
The EOCHA site looks good, well done:) The course looks really nice too, very clean and tidy from the aerial view;)

I will see if I can make it to EOCHA this year. I am trying to plan a trip to visit Mongolia after the Korean Competition, as a pre-graduation present (only 3 classes away) to myself for finishing my degree. If the plane ticket isn't too expensive, maybe I will fly there for the EOCHA competition afterwards...
This means I need to step up my practice a bit haha. Being a college student makes it very difficult to find the time to practice mounted archery, or the money to travel for it. But we shall see.

Wow early September, an outside chance that I could make this one, depending on my work would love to make it to EOCHA this year. Could make it a business trip and pleasure and stay with my business partner and my second family in Pliezhausen Germany, that would be a gas.

Alan, it would be so much fun to see you in Germany! I need to find a way to get Doug to come too... I wish plane tickets were not so expensive.
You will have to come to Bend to train on the European course style if you want to compete ;)
