Wood in the UK

Anyone know of any UK people who sell bits of wood suitable for composite bow building? I was thinking making the entire thing out of maple and shaping / steam bending as appropriate (would this work for a 90 - 110 lb bow? Naturally the siyahs would have horn reinforcement).

Will any piece of maple do or do I need to look for anything specific in them?

Alternatively, is using bamboo suitable? If I get a big piece so I can cut a cuboid in the right size out of the wood part. Garden stores sell bamboo which I've used to make (toy) selfbows before.
