Applying Horn to bamboo?
Hello I have used basic hard woods as cores when applying horn and that is very straight forward, but I finally was able to locate some bamboo big enough to use as core. I am confused thou when it comes to applying the horn to the outside of the bamboo stock. I have sanded down the inside, but do I sand down the outside? There is a slight curve to the outside still and I am afraid the horn will not stick to the bamboo. How is this done? Also do I sand down the center node? I have Thomas video but the quality is poor and I can not figure it out. Thanks any help will do.
Usually you apply the horn at the "inside" of the the bamboo, you don?t have to flatten the nodes to much. Anyway avoid nodes in the bending sections of the limbs.
The most important thing is to coat your horn and bamboo several times with a thin solution of hide- glue(water: glue=1:10-20) before the glueing.
Take care that the glue, the horn and the bamboo are warm enough for glueing. Natural glues love warmth.

Hi amaguk,
at all korean and chinese bows the horn is glued on the outside of the bamboo. Remove the hard "skin" of the bamboo and there will be a thick layer of fibres in contrast to the inside, where the sinew will be applied.
If you can?t avoid a node in the bending part, sand it down until its straight.
The natural curve in the bamboo you can flat it, you also can shape the horn to the same curve, or you boil the horn and bend it.
Hope this helps

I think he did not do intentional, but its the other way round: water:glue = 10-20:1.
