Here are pics from my hornbow process.
It is an circle.
I will bend it to an full circle if the siyahs are attached.

Wolfhorn, this looks very good. It will probably be better than mine.
Do you have a picture of the form used to curve the siyahs?

Also, your grain orientation on the siyahs is traditionally wrong. The grain lines should run perpendicular to what you have.

ALso, you should have waited to thin down the core. A thicker one will make it easier to use the horn binding tool.

Why is there some deflex near the handle area on the bamboo?

The core is not ready at the moment.
Do you think that my core is to thin ??
It is about 0,16 ".

I made the grain lines vertical from the Siyahs, because i think it is more firmer.
But it is also heavyer to bend.

I will give the core a reflex at the handle area, so i get a full circle.
I will send a picture soon.
Maybe i make a new core, but i am not sure.
Maybe i try this core for my first hornbow.

The Siyahs form looks about the same as yours.

The core should end up around 0.125" thick on average. There is one spot that needs to be thicker, around 0.1875" thick. This area is near the end of the handle.
I think you should stick with what you have. I think it will definitely better than mine.

Here are some pics to help you.
There is a point near the end of the handle in the core. This gives it a better transition, and that is where it is thicker.

I wish I had thought of this earlier. Anyway, I was able to make a good handle pattern from my cut up hornbow.
Take the first pic I have and crop it so that the ends of the handle are at the sides of the picture.
Then resize it the picture to be 6-7/16" long. That gives you the actual handle size. You can then print it out and cut it out and copy it into wood.

I am thinking of taking my bow apart. I would remake the siyahs, core and handle.
The core on mine needs to be more crowned. And the siyahs need to curve more near the splice, more like yours wolfhorn.
The handle is far from what I got from cutting up the broken hornbow.

I can reuse the horn and sinew.

Hello Samurai,

Thanks for the pics.
The thickness of the core on the end of the handle,...i think i correct this with the handle.
Do you think that my hornthickness of 0,16" (0,4mm) is enough ??

I also think that you should take the bow apart.
It is work again, but you get a nicer bow, and i think you have more enjoyment with your bow.

I have now a nice circle, because i bent the core on the handle area more.
I will send the pictures tomorrow, and the form for the Siyahs.

Maby the next two weeks i will atach the handle and Siyahs.
I have also a lot of work in my company :(

Keep on working,....
