On a recent trip through New Mexico (USA!), a side trip to the museum in Rocky Ford, NM, yielded pictures of this bow and arrows. It was memorabilia of returning WWII soldiers and was labeled "Guadalcanal", which is in the Southern Solomon Islands. I would suppose they date 1942 or no later than 1943.

The bow is typical black palm wood with a flat, blackened back and a bulging rounded belly.. The string is thick cotton multi-strand. The 8 arrows appear to be phragmites with long, thin palmwood foreshaft points. The arrows were never fletched and have only miniscule nocks.

This is my first Solomon island bow.

What would the bow look like if it's strung?

An arch.
