Siyah wood
Hi all!
Which wood would be good (and fairly easy to get a hold of in the UK) for long siyahs, like that on the Uyghur bow and Hunnic / early Turkic bows? Would you use a similar wood for making the siyahs of late Turkic bows, with a bendy kasan?
I am using a construction method of bamboo backing, bamboo flooring core, and horn belly. Would it be appropriate simply to extend the bamboo flooring core kasan as the siyah instead? I haven't decided which type of bow to make - the early type with stiff ears and no kasan, or the later type. I think for a first bow, the early type is probably easier (I may be wrong ...)
Thanks!
