flatter horn strips and tapered horn strips
flatter horn strips and tapered horn strips(thickness:2-13mm more),which is best for making horn bow?
some people say flatter horn strips is good,i think they are new horn bow maker,may be they look they are nice look and think more horn strips as decoration the bow.i guess their thinking.
and some skill ful bowyer tell me taper horn strips (on thick side,my english)is professional shape,as if flatter horn will be easy split on handle and taper hor strips is very thick on handle,so,taper horn strips is right for making horn bow.
pls see my first making on flatter horn strips,it is nice looking,but after some experts tell me that is wrong,i start to make taper horn strips.
if some master can tell which one shape is right ?flatter or taper,i perfer taper horn strips is right.

i see the link and feel the horn of photo is very bigger size and may be 70cm minmum and horn is already perfect and most is solid part,in fact such ideal horn is very rare,mst here horn is less 60cm and a lot of 凹凸 on surface,Reto wrote:

if we polish the 凹凸,the remain part just for cutting 1 pcs,not possible to cut second,i see them first to cut 50% of horn and use only outside horn to make horn strips and back horn is too short to cut second pcs,my minimum size is 60cm long and 4cm wide and 2-14mm thicker,but if i can only 50cm long with 3-6mm,i think worker can cut them into 2 pcs(1 pairs for 4 pcs) is quite simple,just ask them to do and they can cut by their way in minutes,but most important is choice long size horn which is very rare or expensive in china,many horn is long size,but too twist or too much 凹凸 on the surface,but i insisit on 3-6mm is too thin for making good horn bow,i see some horn bow cutting section and horn layer almost 0.9cm thick of handle part.may be 3-6mm is only to do korean horn bow,i see their horn bow can't use horn reflect force 100%,may be they think horn strips is just decoration or use very less horn natural force,i have korean bow which i guess the horn part is only 1-2mm thicker

with 55-70cm horns one should be happy if one good piece can be made from one horn.
I would say that if you mean to make pieces for sale, then you should
cut as big pieces as possible after taking away the 凹凸 (irregularities) from the horn.
Pieces can always be cut them smaller, but small pieces cannot be made bigger.
You also cannot know what they will be used for.
(I use the same idea for processing material for myself, before I have decided what I will make from them).
Too much horn makes bow a little slower. Too little and it will break.
